Tammy Doukas studies the Ebola virus

When chimpanzees, monkeys, or humans are infected with the Ebola virus, the result is Ebola hemorrhagic fever. While the exact origin of the Ebola virus is unknown it was first discovered in 1976 in Africa. According to the researcher, Tammy Doukas, that wrote the report there are different types of Ebola. This researcher holds an MS in Microbiology that she earned from Stanford University. Some strains of the virus are more lethal than others so research is being done to identify the differences in these viruses. It seems the differences lie somewhere in the genetic code, but it is still a bit of a mystery.
